  • As the first heavy and prolonged tropical storm hits for the year to break up the heat weave in South East QLD, an afternoon ride without wet weather gear results in a soaking (even just walking to the bike through the city, let alone riding).

Surprisingly during the ride, no idiot maneuvers were encountered, and the section of “highway crawling” was reasonable considering the visibility issues coupled with the third world quality of QLD roads. Even the P plate’rs were following the proper road rules.

For those curious, the boots in question are 5,11 Tactical’s and are fully waterproof so long as moisture doesn’t get in through the top via tucked in leg wear and/or just naturally down a soaked leg into the boot. They make for a superb tactical boot for motorcycling or forest hiking/running… and everything inbetween:

In this video tutorial I teach you how to make quilted, insulated and fully lined oven mitts. These are a great scrap buster project because the don’t require much fabric. These oven mitts would make a great gift or stocking stuffer. Once you get the hang of it I bet you will make tons of these. They don’t take long at all and I encourage you to give the random stitching lines a go! It’s fun, freeing and low stress. No need for perfection in this project. Even with minor mistakes it will be fully functional and sure to be a hit in any kitchen.
